The term Search Engine Optimization or SEO is the name of different tools and techniques used to make any web page more attractive for a search engine.

It is a general tendency among people to go through the first or second pages of these search results. Therefore, it would be very important to get your page to be listed in these first two pages so as to attract more traffic to your page. Basically, it consists of four parts, which we describe below in brief. Crawling the Web Search engines are continuously running automated programs on the net which are known by the name of "bots" or "spiders". These programs use the hyperlink of each page to crawl through all the pages and documents that constitute the entire internet which is also known as World Wide Web. But, this crawling process is not complete. It is estimated that of the approximately 20 billion pages available on the net, only about 8 to 10 billion pages are crawled by the search engines. Indexing the documents After any page is crawled, the content of the page gets indexed and stored in a giant database which contains these documents and also maintains a search engine index of these documents. These indexes are very tightly managed so that any request for information which would require searching and sorting of millions of documents could be done within seconds. Processing Queries Whenever a request for information is sent to any search engine, it retrieves all documents from its database which matches the query made. A match is made when the terms or phrase used in the query is found in the page as specified by the user. This match would be different if the phrase is in quote or not. Some search engines like Google also provide advanced tools for making complex queries.
Ranking Results After the search engine have extracted all documents from its database which matches with the query, the algorithm of the search engine calculates the rank of each document extracted and then displays the result showing in the order from most relevant to the least. Search Engine Optimization tools would help your page to rank higher on these search results for better visibility to the users. It would be difficult to say whether there are secret resources available for doing Search Engine Optimization, but if you search the internet, you will get hundreds and thousands of sites from which you could get assistance for the optimization process.
