Size down goals without tuning out
07/17/2008 - By JOSEPH JAGDE Sometimes are goals loom so large to us, at least in terms of perception that they take preeminence over what we are actually trying to do and we bypass ways to get something in concrete form that is at least a start.
There are good reasons to let go a bit. Some times best efforts applied here will get much better results there. Although that analysis can be applied, everything shouldn’t be analyzed in terms of better.
You don’t necessarily want to say I’m only going to shift if I can perceive better, but at the same time you can also say I’m perceiving the need for better, in the manner of what is of significance to what I’m trying to do.
I really could be in a job that is better, a relationship that is better, and at some important levels there are some real shortfalls here. You especially don’t want to denigrate your ability to think, to visit fully and review real pros and cons with a mixture of subjectively and objectively.
Within the mix of pros and cons, there may be some real disassociations involved to where, the reality is I’m still associated with this to some degree and the dissociative mechanisms of thinking are that I’m only going so far and I’m stalling and I have to return to planet earth and deal with the associative gravity involved and partake in some way with the present realities that I find myself. The super goal becomes dissociative unless it is viable where at times we want to be associative with our goals in whatever ways we can. So I can’t run the 100 mile race today with that club, that doesn’t mean I should dissociate with running, and even if I am running only 15 minutes today, I am still being associative to running.
Goals can be substratered to where I might want to break the goal down to a smaller more manageable pie. I might love pie, but I can’t have the biggest pie in the world all at once.
The reason to do this is the operative when the larger goal looms so large that the smaller more elemental goals lack permissive elements, with the core meaning that the goal is squandered into an all or nothing working proposition. Why, because I don’t have permission towards anything but all, so anything less than all lacks all permission where I can begin to give some permission to less than all.
Either it happens, this way or it is not going to happen at all.. Therefore limits, even hazy limits, are formulated to where all the possibilities are on either side of the hazy fence with no hole in the fence and no way to hold both sides together. The haziness of this approach however does become in some ways definitive where I blanket the situation with an answer where the answer may be there if I seek it out and ask instead of staying with my own predermination, which I let become denitive with little need for explanations that can also be found if sought. Because I am dealing with haze, which I don’t like, I try to form this into more concrete elements, where I should realize that it is hazy conditions for this goal and see what I can realisitically do now that I am in hazy conditions rather than fighting for clarity where I just don’t have it.
So where you see a goal looming on the horizon like a giant storm, as a matter of proactive try to size the goal down, while still tuning in.
If I can read just one article in the paper without lashing about not getting to the rest, if I can just run a couple of laps at the track or run for a half hour instead of my looming goal of an hour, and I am disappointed with the felt shortfall, I go there anyway and experience the disappointment involved, putting in the deflating elements and opening them as an equation, even though I expected higher than this.
If I don’t do this, my experience might then be, if I can’t get it all, I’ll justify my stay at nothing by keeping that super goal in place no matter what, and I still have my super goal, but not much else but a goal seemingly forever unrealized.
There is a tendency to go the edges until the walls cave in, and I’ll redouble my efforts to go harder on this goal.
But then at least consider and find that you don’t always have to go to the edges of possibilities and sometimes you can take what you are finding before you get there on the outer edges on your way.
